Frequently Asked Questions -
FAQ
ABOUT THE SITE
1. Can I
upload creations from Sim Showroom site/forum to some other site/group with
credits or use your textures?
Yes and No -
please read: These published creations and textures are
owned by their authors and they have decided to put them here free only for your
private use. You can send them to each other, trade, but you can't publish
them on any site/group even with credit. BUT, if you are
making a full Sim and putting it on exchange or some other site, you can upload
it in Sim Showroom creation, but you must give full credit and
link back to www.simshowroom.com . You can share this file via proper
channels (mail or similar) as long you are respectful to artists and the site.
If you are not sure is the thing you plan to do allowed or not, please
ask by filling out simple contact form on the left.
Any violations
will be reported so please don't take advantage on artists good will to give you
creations for your personal use and make things ugly.
2. How often do you publish new
stuff?
Once a week, but sometimes even more often on our forum members downloads.
3. Could I send you some things I've made and will
you publish them?
Of course! We are looking forward seeing your stuff! If
any of you wants to show up as a guest artist on Sim Showroom, please let us
know. We all always ready to support talented young artists. Send few quality
pics of your work to simshowroom (nospam) @yahoo.com
-remove the (nospam) part - or send me PM on forum. If you want to publish your
stuff immediately, go to our forum board "Members make for members" where you can instantly post your
creations.
4. What is your recommendation for best browser for
your site?
The site
is best viewed at 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution on Internet Explorer, but is
great looking at 1024 x 768 pixels, too. On our site statistics we have noticed
that 98% of our visitors have Internet explorer as a browser and those two
screen resolutions. The site is also tested on Mozzilla Firefox 2.0 and works
perfectly.
5. What do these
little signs represent?
First group of three signs you
will find in Casual clothing page, they mark the sort of a download on a
picture, it can be a top, bottom (skirt or pants) or the whole outfit.
The second group of two signs is the most important one, it shows which
expansion pack is required to use that specific creation. It means that
the creation wont work if you don't have that EP. If a creation doesn't have
a sign, then it works with sole Sims 2 game and with all expansion
packs (tested).
6. Why can't I
open your files with WinZip?
The program used to package files is
WinRar. WinZip can't open those, only WinRar can. The reason I use WinRar is
that WinRar better compresses files so they use less space on
web.
7.How come your
creations in your pictures look so amazing and in my game they look
blurry/bad/not so detailed?
The level of detail and how good a
clothing or object will look like depends on two things: your graphics (video)
card and your in-game graphics options. First of all you must have a graphics
card that is well over minimum required by Maxis. And new drivers for it, if I
may add. Second, to get creations looking perfect and detailed, you must set
your in-game graphics options to high. At least those that mention
sim/texture/object detail. But know that if your computer is not powerful
enough, it will slow down your game (loading, day/night switches and
similar)
ABOUT
DOWNLOADING
1. Where do I put my downloaded
files?
First you download them to a well known place like on Desktop
or in My Documents folder. You can also create a folder called "Downloads for
Sims2" and download to it (to keep downloads separate from your other stuff
).
For genetics, clothes & objects: extract .package files from downloaded file to C:/My Documents/EA Games/Sims2/Downloads folder. You can extract files by using only Winrar program (there are may sites to download it, just google it).
For houses, walls, floors and whole Sims:Use winrar to open a downloaded file, click on Sims package icon (the install window will then open), click install and then OK. You can see the detailed pics of installing here on these links:

Every download also has a text file included with
instructions how to install it or use it.
2. Are items on this
site safe?
All items that you see on this site have been tested in a game
and they all work perfectly (with all expansion packs, too). However, if you are
using new meshes you are doing it on your own risk, but like said before,
everything published here was tested in a game and works perfectly in my game.
All files are tested and virus free.
3. When I try to download it says
"page can't be found or similar", why?
Try again in a few hours and check
your internet connection. If it repeats on a same item it could be a broken
link, please be nice and report it by Contact form.
4. When
I try to extract zip files error message shows up that says that file is invalid
or corrupted. What does that mean?
Sometimes there could be a glitch with uploading or
downloading files. That message only says that the file isn't downloaded whole
so it can't be opened. Try downloading it again with a stable connection. If
this repeats with same item please report it, it could be that file wasn't fully
uploaded and it will be re-uploaded as soon as I receive a report.
5. On some downloads it says that it has a mesh file. What is that?
Mesh is another .package file that you will
find in downloaded file. It is a new shape/structure of Maxis clothes and
objects, so then you have mini skirts for adults or gowns which shape you can't
find in original game. You must also put that file in your downloads folder.
If the mesh isn't in the downloaded file, then it isn't needed and the
creation is based on regular Maxis shape.
6. Your creations aren't showing in my game,
why?
First
check that you have enabled custom content in game, you have to do that manually
in game settings, then restart the game. Then check did you do everything
in question& answer no1 here.
For any other questions please don't hesitate to write a message on our forums in help area , send me a PM there or write to fill out the Contact form.
